- Novell Labs certification Alliance Introduced
- SelfDCertification Program Benefits Hardware Developers
-
- PROVO, Utah -- February 4, 1992 -- Novell today announced the Novell Labs
- Certification Alliance. Through this alliance, Novell Labs will train and
- authorize hardware developers to conduct NetWare compatability testing,
- allowing them to produce more NetWareDcompatible products and release them in
- a more timely fashion.
-
- "The Novell Labs Certification Alliance will allow NetWareDcompatability
- testing to become an intrinsic part of the product development cycle," said
- David Owen, vice president of Novell Labs. "As developers integrate
- compatibility testing into the development cycle, more products and
- configurations will be tested, and a broader base of NetWare certified
- products will be available to customers."
-
- The program has been developed in response to the increasing industry
- requirement for tested and approved hardware products. To meet this need,
- Novell is enabling developers to certify products more quickly by
- incorporating NetWareDcompatibility testing into their development
- environment.
-
- The program, offered only to developers with whom Novell has an established
- relationship, consists of intensive training, dedication of developer
- personnel and equipment resources, use of and compliance with Novell test
- suites and guidelines and submission to audits. Certification is still
- governed by Novell . Products that meet certification requirements will be
- listed in the Independent Manufacturer Support Program (IMSP) index published
- by Novell.
-
- Program Structure
-
- In addition to establishing a test lab at their site, developers must send a
- minimum of two Certified NetWare Engineers (CNEs) to Novell for an intense
- twoDweek training course. While in training, participants conduct extensive
- NetWareDcompatibility tests on their own products, sideDbyDside with Novell
- Labs engineers. Novell provides test suites that must be used not only during
- the training but in subsequent tests at the developer site.
-
- Once training is completed, Novell conducts an audit on a minimum of five or
- more products tested by the developer. After successfully establishing
- compliance, developers are authorized to conduct their own tests, and are
- required to submit results to Novell to receive product certification and
- publication in the IMSP index.
-
- Program Quality Assurance
-
- Novell assures quality of testing and certification through several checks and
- balances built into the program. Tests conducted by developers must be done
- in a testing lab that must be inspected and approved by Novell Labs engineers.
- Test results are reported to Novell via an encrypted file that is
- automatically generated during the testing process. If this file shows any
- signs of tampering, certification will not be granted. In addition, Novell
- will conduct periodic audits by retesting products and comparing Novell's
- results agains results submitted by the developer. Novell also maintains the
- right to publicly grant or rescind certification. Certified products will be
- published in the IMSP index.
-
- Pricing and Availability
-
- The program, available now, is offered to a select number of developers who
- apply for participation through Novell Labs. The cost is $35,000, U.S. and
- NonDU.S. This represents a significant savings to developers who test more
- than five products per year.
